The First Battle of Covid in the Great War of Minds

What if WWIII began in 2020?

How do you know you are in an undeclared war? Look around you.

Every war has decisive battles. The first, the last, and usually, the battle that changed the course of history and the fates of its opponents. It would seem WWIII is no exception.

I remember learning as a child about the days in which my parents grew up during the height of the cold war with Russia. They would talk about drills at school where they hid under desks, grabbing the scruff of their necks while clenching their knees into tight balls under their stomachs. They were told this was to protect them if the “Russkies” ever dropped a “nuke” on us. They were told this would give them a chance.

I recall as a child in the 80s, seeing dirty old signs, neglected and forgotten, saying, “nuclear fallout shelter” with that strange symbol in yellow and black. I distinctly remember thinking, “what is fallout, and how is that weird concrete closet supposed to save us from it in a nuclear war?”

At the time, I lacked the mental faculties to pin down what was so amiss about these rituals and symbols. Even as a child I could understand that nuclear war would be devastating, eliminating, final. What was the point of hiding under desks when every man, woman, child, animal, insect and plant would be vaporized in an instant? Or the purpose of building randomly placed concrete shelters for the public (that fit merely a dozen people at most) to “protect” them from the first few minutes of a process of radioactive decay that takes decades to complete? I had no answers then.

Fast forward 40 years. Everything about the Covid “pandemic” experience to me was soul shaking. I’d seen enough Hollywood films to easily envision the possibility of a man-made virus getting loose and wreaking havoc on society. A recurring, major theme of the stories I had consumed in my adult years, from ‘Terminator’ to ‘Jurassic Park’ to ‘Contagion’ to ‘The Matrix’, all revolved around a central theme of human arrogance in science leading to the destruction of mankind and disequilibrium of nature. The early whispers of C-19 actually becoming a “myth made real” hit me at the core of my Hollywood crafted psyche.

I did everything I imagined I was supposed to do in that situation; a modern day person’s version of the fetal position under the desk, I suppose. Social distancing for nearly a year, religious masking, stockpiling medications, endless vitamins and supplements to boost my immunity, prayers to a silent God for mercy.

As the years rolled on and the story evolved, I started to question what had really transpired during this crisis. Why were we religiously wearing masks for a virus that can easily pass through them? How does any form of social distancing stop a virus that cannot be contained BY DESIGN from ripping through our entire species? Were these all just meaningless rituals to appease that silent and mysterious God?

Meanwhile the so called, fair and unbiased institution of “media” proved to be a mystery all its own. Knowingly reporting half facts and truths and crassly omitting critical information; all while lockstep singing from a common hymnal that only they could read. Couldn’t they see we knew this made no sense? Can’t they see we know they are lying? I was constantly reminded of the famous quote by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, “We know that they are lying, they know that they are lying, they even know that we know they are lying, we also know that they know we know they are lying too, they of course know that we certainly know they know we know they are lying too as well, but they are still lying.”

The vaccine deaths and injuries inevitably piled up and made the papers one by one. One side denies them as yellow journalism while the other spends years pontificating on why no one will admit to obvious facts. Proof is laid on top of proof to prove that something is terribly wrong; that “something” or “someone” is lying. But nothing ever happens. When will the villains be held to account? When will be their judgment day?

The reason there exists so many obvious logical fallacies and clear evidence that we are being lied to en masse is never asked, even by the so called iconoclasts of our day. Yet the facts are beyond obvious to anyone willing to see. When will there be judgement, they ask? No one ever asks, why is there no judgement?

I then realized that neither side of the ground war surrounding us for the last 4 years would ever yield a victor. Like the Tower of Babel, we are the unwitting players in a game designed to distract and confuse us for as long as possible, while the “real” war wages on day and night, in the dark shadows of a new military frontier with new weapons and new soldiers we will never be privy to know.

We were told that in the old days that noblemen and ladies would come dressed in their Sunday best to spectate at those early battles, before a victor was certain and both sides were full of conceit and hope. But we never had that day in our war. We are left blind, deaf and dumb as we shuffle our way through the dark; not even given the common courtesy to inform us that WWIII has begun. Because as T.S. Elliot foretold, “This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper.”

Today’s war remains undeclared. There will be no Pearl Harbor, no Battle of Bull Run. Society will drudge on as it always has while these terrible new wars of technology, bioweaponry and information supremacy rage all around us. Covid was merely a bioweapons arms race where one side proved to the other that their attempts to launch their latest bioweapon of choice is futile as WE have the technology to deliver an antidote within weeks and WE have the political will and power to successfully quarantine millions of people without systemic collapse. It is no different than the nuclear arms race of the 50’s and our propaganda designed to hoodwink the enemy into believing that we were ready, willing and able to play the game of mutual destruction to its terrifying ends.

So in the sickening dawn of this realization I take little comfort; nor feel any hopeful, patriotic ardor. I merely see the same arrogance and hubris that drove all mythical and real-life madmen (and the hapless societies in their wake) into the abyss. God help us all.
